July 21, 1945 – May 12, 2025
Ruthann Eckert Walker, 79, of Daytona Beach, Florida, formerly of Ravenna, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025.
Born in Ravenna on July 21, 1945, Ruthann was the daughter of Herbert Clifford Eckert and Margaret Rita Serani Eckert Tinlin. Ruthann graduated from Kent-Rosevelt High School in 1962 and later attended Bohecker Business College in Ravenna to earn her associate’s degree in accounting. She spent much of her professional life as a dedicated staff accountant - working for many years at Jay Em Corporation and later at AT&T before retiring from accounting. To keep herself busy in recent years Ruthann worked part-time for Laundry Land Laundromat in South Daytona where she had developed a following of regular customers who loved her. Ruthann brought diligence and precision to her work, and those same qualities shaped how she approached her personal life.
Outside of work, Ruthann found joy in the quiet pleasures of nature and craft. She loved her bird Sunshine, feeding the wildlife in the canal near her home and tending to her gardens. During her time in Florida, she grew her collection of frog themed items ranging from stuffed animals to ceramic and glass-blown designs. Ruthann also loved to occasionally go against the grain, even with much of her family Cleveland Browns fans, she became a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She enjoyed crochet, known for her handmade creations shared with family and friends over the years. Perhaps most notably, Ruthann was a passionate bowler. A fixture at Twin Star Lanes in Kent for more than 25 years where she earned numerous awards and accolades in local leagues, a testament to both her skill and her dedication.
Ruthann was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Margaret, sisters Judith Marxin, Mary Lou Taylor, Juanita Miller, Jeannie Bush and Laura Monroe, brothers Robert Eckert, David Eckert and Edward Eckert.
Ruthann is survived by her brothers Herbert “Corky” Eckert, Harry Eckert and beloved Brother-in-Law Butch Miller, her children Kimberly Stull, Charles “Joey” (Yongson) Jones, Michelle (Jon) Daugherty, Misti (Bryan) Drope, grandchildren Alex (Sarah) App, Britny (Ryan) Shannon, Tori Umemoto, Brandon McFadden, Tia Jones, David (Sarah) Stull, Jordan McFadden, Tyler Drope and Rylee Drope, and great-grandchildren Tristian App and Kai Umemoto. Her love extended beyond direct relatives, including those she embraced as family who brought her great joy in her later years.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 28, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, Ohio. A private funeral service for family will follow on Thursday, May 29. Ruthann will be laid to rest at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio.
