Breasely (“Brea”) L. Winfield-Mitchell, 75, of Laurel, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Petersburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James A. Wingfield, Sr., and Bessie C. (Jones) Wingfield. In 1955, her family relocated to Reading, Pennsylvania, where she was raised.
Brea attended Reading Junior Academy and was a graduate of Blue Mountain Academy Seventh-day Adventist School. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington Adventist University and a Master of Arts degree. She dedicated her professional life to serving others. Prior to her retirement, she worked as Assistant Administrative Director for the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).
A woman of deep faith, Brea was a devoted member of the Beltsville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Beltsville, Maryland. When health challenges made attendance difficult, she embraced online opportunities to continue worshiping. When she found a program especially meaningful, she was quick to share it, encouraging others to watch or listen. A dedicated prayer warrior, she prayed passionately for others, even during her own struggles.
Brea had a compassionate heart and found great joy in giving back to her community, especially through activities involving young children and her involvement in programs supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. She was also passionate about education, serving as an elementary school substitute teacher and teaching online university courses.
Brea had a vibrant and creative spirit. She loved participating in worship teams, cooking, crafting unique ceramic pieces, and shopping for the holidays, often bringing joy to others through her thoughtful gifts and warm hospitality.
Brea is lovingly remembered by her beloved sons, Marcus Giddings and his wife, Sara, of Annapolis, Maryland, and Jason Giddings of Shady Grove, Maryland; and her cherished grandchildren, Isabella, Harper, Noah, and Jay. She is also survived by her three sisters, Jean Carolyn Winfield-Harris of Blandon; Amanda Yvonne Winfield of Madison, Alabama; and Rosalind Bell and her husband, Anthony, of Sinking Spring; and her three brothers, James Winfield, Jr. of Muhlenberg; Jerry Winfield Sr. and his wife, April, of Buford, Georgia; and John Winfield and his wife, Judy, of Laurel, Maryland; and brother-in- law William Anthony Dunn, Lanham, Maryland. Honorary brothers, Michael Croom of Reading; Antoine DeLoach of Philadelphia; and Thomas DeLoach of Sicklerville, New Jersey; and a host of other family members.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Wanda Winfield-Dunn of Lanham, Maryland, and her husband, Paul Mitchell.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Rehoboth Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1502 Snyder Street, Reading, PA 19601, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM. The service will also be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/@rehobothsdachurch. Interment will follow at Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff of the Kaiser Wing on Floor 3C, as well as the doctors, for their warm and compassionate care.
