Don DeTurk, of Flying Hills, passed away at his home on August 27, 2022. Born in Reading on November 16, 1936, he was a son of the late Henry W. and Helen (Wojciechowski) DeTurk. Don is predeceased by his wife of 24 years, Mary (Cardile) DeTurk, wife of 18 years Natalie Huber DeTurk, and sister Delores DeTurk Conrad. Don is survived by brother, Robert DeTurk, of Gratz, PA and his companion May Spies, of Reading.
Don was a graduate of Mount Penn High School, class of 1955. Following graduation, Don went on to serve his country in the US Navy. After service at the Naval Air stations in Norfolk, Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina, Don was honorably discharged.
Don was employed for 48 years in sales and marketing. During that time, he spent 18 years with Southwood Farms in Hockessin, Delaware, and 30 years of service with Giorgio Foods of Temple, PA, retiring as a Vice President of Sales in January 2013.
Don enjoyed history and was a member of the Kutztown Historical Society, Oley Valley Heritage Association, Berks History Center, Boyertown Museum of Historical Vehicles, and H. L. Meechen Society. Don was a lifetime member of the NRA and supported conservation while serving an active role in Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever organizations.
Don had a passion for travel with frequent visits to Europe throughout many years. Don and his wife Mary spent winter vacations in the Caribbean, particularly in their favorite locations of Aruba and Cayman Islands. Their summer holidays were spent in Cape May, NJ.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Don's life on Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 10 AM to 11 AM at Auman's Inc., 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reiffton. A memorial service will promptly commence in the funeral home at 11 AM, with Rev. Dr. Robert Aregood officiating. Graveside committal will immediately follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 391 W. Neversink Rd., Reiffton.
