Georgios J. Katsafanas

Georgios J. Katsafanas 74 of Bern Township passed away February 13, 2014 in Chestnut Hill Hospital. His wife A. Yvonne (Sanders) Katsafanas whom he married in Astoria, NY, passed away in 1998. Georgios was born in Vlahokerasia, Tripolis, Greece on June 22, 1939 a son of the late Yiannis and Alexandra (Karatzas) Katsafanas.

He was a veteran of the Greek Military, a member of Sts. Constantine & Helen GOC, and previous owner of Rising Sun Hotel, Bar, and Restaurant in Reading.

Georgios is survived by his children; Paula Christine of Atlanta, GA., Alexandra Elizabeth wife of Michael David DeAngelis of Wernersville, Joanna Yvonne Katsafanas with Andrew Mountz at home, and John George Katsafanas of Bern Township. His sister Maria Antonopoulos of Timonium, MD., 8 grandchildren; Acacia, Theodossea, Marietta, Uma, A.J., Athanasia, George, and Gabriel. Georgios was predeceased by his siblings, Athanasia Sabrakos and Panayouti Katsafanas.

Services will be Wednesday February 19, 2014 at 11am in Sts. Constantine & Helen GOC 1001 E. Wyomissing Blvd., Reading PA 19611. Burial to follow in Charles Evans Cemetery. A viewing will be Wednesday 10-11am in the church. Contributions may be made to Sts. Constantine & Helen GOC in his memory at the above address.
