Grace Anne Garwood, 41, of West Reading, Pa., passed away on March 11, 2025, after facing stage IV colon cancer with remarkable strength, bravery, and hope. Born on July 25, 1983, in Norristown, Pa., Grace lived a life filled with creativity, humor, and deep love for her family.
Grace was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend, known for her distinct personal style and keen sense of observation. She embraced life with humor, generosity, and just the right amount of stubbornness, always savoring the simple pleasures — a great book, a delicious meal, a captivating movie, a crisp breeze, a fresh journal, or a drive with the roof down. A master of metaphor, she found poetry in everyday moments and meaning in the smallest details. She shared a love of creativity, comedy, and filmmaking with her husband and found endless inspiration in storytelling, whether through words, images, or witty banter.
A graduate of Kutztown University, Grace earned a bachelor's degree in professional writing in 2011. She had an innate gift for language and an eye for beauty in unexpected places. As an avid street photographer and writer, she captured the world with honesty and insight. Her love of food and storytelling shaped her career, leading her to work as a business writer for The Food Institute and as a copywriter and project manager for two chocolate companies. That passion began in childhood when she would underline mouthwatering food descriptions in books, returning to them as one would a favorite meal.
Above all, Grace cherished time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Alexander Meyers, and their beloved son, Winston Meyers; her mother, Patricia (McManus) Garwood; her siblings Rita (Julian Rutledge) Garwood, Rachel (Kevin) Meyer, Michael Garwood, and Polly (Chris Calmels) Garwood; her in-laws Denis and Michele Meyers, Joshua (Laura Fisk) Meyers and Chris (Amy) Meyers; and her niece and nephews Violet Synnestvedt-Garwood, Griffin Meyers, Oliver Rutledge, Caspian Rutledge, Dylan Meyers and Apollo Garwood. Grace was preceded in death by her father, Joseph T. Garwood, and her brother, Joseph T. Garwood III.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Auman's Inc., 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. A celebration of life service will promptly commence in the funeral home at 10:30 AM, with Rev. Mark Stryjak officiating. Graveside committal will immediately follow at Aulenbach’s Cemetery, 2050 Howard Blvd., Mt. Penn.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Grace's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or by performing a random act of kindness in her name.
