John Edgar Moss Jr.

John Edgar Moss, Jr. , “Scoot” “Bud”, 83, of Exeter Twp., passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday, August 4, 2014. He was the loving husband of the late Barbara (Boyer) Moss, whom passed away in December 2010.

Born in Williamstown on May 11, 1931, he was the son of the late John Edgar, Sr. and Edith Sarahann (Watkins) Moss. He was a 1949 graduate of Williamstown High School.

John was a US Army veteran who was discharged as a Corporal on August 31, 1959 after serving during the Korean War. His organization was the 722nd Transportation Company. While in the service, he received the Gen. Thomas J. Stewart Medal and received his Marksmanship Badge. He completed an Auto mechanic School in Breckenridge, Kentucky. He later joined the VFW Post 6497 and the American Legion Post 239 in Williamstown.

John was employed with Pennsylvania Railroad Co., then Reading Railroad which later became Conrail Railroads as head of locomotive shop in Reading for over 40 years.

John was a member of the Clover Park Athletic Association. He was an avid hunter and fisher and enjoyed that time he spent with his father and the buddies he grew up with. John enjoyed taking golfing trips with his friends down to Myrtle Beach and feeding the seagulls afterwards. He was an avid NASCAR fan and Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver. He was very creative and liked to take things apart and put them back together. He was a dedicated and loving husband and liked to look at Christmas decorations and lights to remind him of his wife, Barbara.

Surviving John are his two children: daughter, Peggy Moss of Exeter Twp. and son, John Edgar Moss, III and his wife, Rosemarie (Mengel) of Exeter Twp.; five grandchildren: Dr. Scott Stanislaw and his wife, Linda (Coleman) of Texas, Alinda (Stanislaw) Ferenz and her husband, Jim of Douglassville, Bobbi (Stanislaw) Blatt and her husband, Jim of Reading, John Edgar Moss, IV and his wife, Stephanie (Armstrong) of Reading and Monica (Moss) Ortiz and her husband, Gilbert of Reading and eleven great grandchildren: Ellery and Evan Stanislaw, Sarah and Jacob Blatt, Matthew and Tyler Ferenz, Taylor, Mackenzie and Jenna Moss, and Leahnessa and Lakin Ortiz.

Also surviving is a brother: Lee Moss of Williamstown; a sister: Lorraine (Moss) Flynn and her husband, Joseph of Williamstown and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 12pm on Saturday, August 9, 2014 in Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Saturday from 11 to 12pm. John will be laid to rest next to Barbara in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.
