Lucille Elaine (Snyder) Althouse, 77, passed away on January 11, 2026, at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital. Born October 21, 1948, in Reading, PA, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. Snyder and Pearl Leona (Conrad) Snyder-Reitenauer.
Lucille was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin Marlin Althouse, who passed away on November 18, 2007. The couple wed on October 29, 1967. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Daniel Snyder; her sister, Geraldine Moser; her brothers, Ronald, Donald, Jack, Robert, and Larry Snyder; as well as one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
Lucille spent many years working as a seamstress at Mechanics Coverall before continuing her career as a floater with Aramark, where she worked for over 20 years until her well deserved retirement.
She was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church and found joy in the simple things in life. Lucille enjoyed knitting, playing BINGO, going fishing, caring for her flowers and vegetable garden, and keeping her yard neat. She also liked visiting the casino to play slots and trying her luck on scratch-offs, always convinced the next one might be the winner. A talented cook, Lucille was especially known for her pineapple upside-down cake, a family favorite that will be fondly remembered.
Lucille never turned down a trip to the Maryland shore and treasured the cruises she shared with her husband, Melvin. Above all, she loved her family. She was known for her lively spirit and playful humor, which stayed with her to the very end. Even during her final days in the hospital, she could still be found making silly faces and sticking out her tongue just to make her children smile.
Lucille’s loving spirit lives on through her children: Jack Lee Snyder and his wife Denise, Larry Althouse, April Marie Hiester and her husband Ronnie, and Georgine L. Fisher and her husband Richard Jr.; her sisters, Carolyn A. Bitting, Patricia M. Wessner, and Kerry Lee Snyder; and her 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601, on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Berks County Memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville Rd., Fleetwood, PA 19522.
Lucille’s warmth, humor, and love touched everyone who knew her, and her memory will continue to bring joy and comfort to her family and friends for years to come. She will be remembered not only for her playful spirit and generous heart but also for the countless little moments that made life brighter for those around her. Rest in eternal peace, dear Lucille.
