Marina Y Asthon
11 July, 1929 – 10 February, 2021
Marina Y Asthon, 91, died on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Hickory House, in Honey Brook, PA, following a recent fall.
Marina was born in Reading, PA in 1929, the sixth child of nine of Rallio and Peter Yatron who immigrated to the US from Lesvos, Greece.
She did her undergraduate studies at Albright College, where she met her husband of fifty-two years, and a master’s equivalence while teaching at Upper Darby High School, where she taught American and British literature for over 25 years.
Besides growing up and retiring in Reading, she lived in Philadelphia, Karachi, Bloomington, Rome, New York City and Havertown.
Being a very social person throughout her life, she developed lasting and meaningful friendships with people all over the world. Whether at a bus stop as a young woman or when she retired and moved back to Reading, her social circle was ever expanding.
Marina was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was continually baking, cooking and entertaining for most of her life. For quite some time, she was a serious chocolatier having studied with a professional. With her beloved sisters, Marilyn, Irene and Frances, and her husband Richard, they enjoyed many adventures together. The same could be said of other close friendships too, including that with her cousin, Theana Sheetz and several wonderful neighbors. Besides having lived overseas, she greatly enjoyed travel in Europe and Asia. At times, she was an enthusiastic bridge player as well. She was loving and caring to many and many were the same to her.
She is survived by two children, Marilyn Bahr and Nicholas Asthon, their spouses, Thomas Bahr and Min-Yeh Chang, two grandchildren, Greyson Asthon and Trevor Bahr, her sisters Marilyn Holden and Frances Miller and her husband, Richard Miller and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John George Robert Asthon, their son, John Michael Robert Asthon, her brothers Harry, Stratton, Nicholas, Michael and Paul Yatron and her sister Irene Perrine.
On Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St, Reading, PA, there will be a viewing from 12:00 to 1:00 PM and a 1:00 PM service followed by burial at Charles Evans Cemetery.
