Mercedes De La Cruz, 56, of Reading, PA went on to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 22, 2022, at her residence and surrounded by her loving family. Born November 3, 1965 in Cidra, Puerto Rico she was a daughter to the late Benjamin Bermudez and Joaquina (Robles) Bermudez.
Mercedes was a loving wife, an amazing mother, doting grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and a wonderful friend who also possessed a deep devotion to her faith. She was a proud member of Light House Christian Center and had a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ and loved God with all her heart, all her soul, and all her strength. Her faith in God never wavered during any trial or storm.
Mercedes had a heart for serving others and helped care for the elderly through her 30 years as a CNA. She worked at various locations including but not limited to: Lutheran Home at Topton, Manor Care West Reading, Manor Care Sinking Spring, Spruce Manor and Wyomissing Lodge and Rehab.
In her spare time, Mercedes enjoyed crocheting baby clothes, reading books by her favorite author Jane Austen, especially Pride & Prejudice, going on long country drives on the weekends, and 'Rita Runs' with her babies; however above all else, she absolutely loved cooking and baking for her family and loved watching them enjoy her cooking.
Mercedes greatest gift was the love she gave her family. Her family, children and grandchildren brought her much joy. She taught them about God, love, kindness, compassion, giving everyone the benefit of the doubt and to never judge anyone. Mercedes had a way of seeing people as individuals, each with their own struggles. She believed that everyone had the ability to change and that love could fix so many things in the world.
She was kind and compassionate and will always be remembered for her everlasting loving and gentle spirit. A beautiful woman with a heart too big to describe, a blessing to everyone she knew, and a light in this world that greatly needed it. She will be dearly missed by all blessed enough to have known her.
Mercedes spirit will be carried on by her beloved husband of 32 years, Raymundo De La Cruz; her 3 daughters Jessica Rosario, of Sinking Spring, Mayra Montañez, Selena Sprock, both of Reading; her 4 siblings Domingo Bermudez, of Reading, Alejandro Bermudez, of Richmond, VA, Luz Nilda Robles and Julie Bermudez, both of Reading. Mercedes also leaves behind 16 grandchildren Anastasia, Julian, Jovani, Jossian, Jaylynn, Giomarie, Raquel, Tachy, Janitza, Pedro, Jessica, Janessa, Joziah, Jazmyne, Zylina, Dolores; 5 great grandchildren Noami, Govani Jr., Jayden, Julius, Mercedes Lynn and many nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
A viewing for Mercedes will be held Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn Street, Reading, PA 19601, followed by a prayer service promptly commencing at 2:00 PM.
