

Willie "Sonny" James Cooper, 72, of Reading, PA entered eternal rest on Friday, July 22, 2022. Born March 15, 1950 in Kingstree, South Carolina he was a son to the late Willie Cooper and Aletha Scott McCrea Cooper.
Willie was a graduate of Reading High School, class of 1968; where he played football and was a proud member of the 1968 Reading Keystones football team. He studied finance at Grambling State University and worked at Carpenter Technology for over 20 years, as a heat treatment operator.
Willie was a caring, laid-back, dapper gentleman, who was always dressed to the nines and possessed a great sense of humor. He loved sports, especially football and was an avid reader, who could be found with a book in his hand whenever he had a little free time.
Willie always dreamed of owning a successful business and owning land in South Carolina so, he could live close to his family. He and his sister Dolores talked about doing this together. His love for his family and friends was always most important to him and that love will carry on forever. Willie will be sorely missed by all blessed enough to have known him.
Willie's spirit will be carried on by his 3 sons Dominic Copeland and his wife Shanin, Chatton Copeland and Willie Cooper Jr.; his daughter Lori Dagostino; his 2 siblings Deloris Franklin and Cicero McCrea; 5 grandchildren Alexander, Xavier, Gabriel, Elijah and Nene. Willie also leaves behind his former significant other of 30 years Mary Frances Martin; 4 bonus children Ervin Martin, Ronald Martin, Aiyishah Martin and Anita Jemenez to cherish his memory. Willie also had a special relationship with his cousin "Coop" and family. He deeply cherished all of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by the mother of his 3 sons Ann Copeland; his 10 siblings Jasper McCrea, Jannie Washington, Susan Elizabeth Crayton, Rachel McCrea, Herman McCrea, Willease Cooper, Louis Brockington, Carrie Jones, Amarie Hudson, and Alberta Fulton.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, Reading. A celebration of Willie's life will be private and at the discretion of his family.
