My father was the most helpful and caring man that I’ve ever known. He loved all of us with such pride and joy. The thing that he loved most in life was his family. He would have done anything for each and every one of us.
Clovis was born in Patterson, MO on December 27th 1946 to Verd and Pauline. He was one of twelve children. The family moved to California when he was very young. He met the love of his life when he was 17 years old in Corning, CA. After being friends for many years, they were married on March 27th 1974.
Together, they raised six children. Conni, Freda, Joseph, myself, David and Elijah. Conni’s family includes Dave DC Charles, whom he loved to ride his Harley with. Amanda Charles whom he loved to play chess with and Marissa Charles who he was so proud of when he watched her graduate last year in Nebraska. Freda’s family consists of Randy who he loved tinkering on cars with. Morgan who he enjoyed seeing grow into a lovely young lady. Rocky who he loved hearing play his guitar for his Papa. Joseph Webster’s family includes his wife Kathleen and beautiful daughters Koreen and Breah and his stepson Gabriel. Koreen and Breah had a special place in their Papa’s heart because they spent a lot of time with their grandma and Papa when they were younger. My family consists of Leesa, sons Spencer, Brady and Cooper. David’s family includes Tina, Raymond and Kal-el. Clovis enjoyed Tina’s cooking and the times she spent talking with him. And the sounds of Raymond and Kal-el (little Superman) running through the house. And finally, Elijah, his youngest son was his little buddy, tinkering around the house with him. He had a lot of love to give for his six children and twelve grandchildren.
Clovis proudly worked three years for the US Forest Service and 24 years with the USPS. He was a shop steward at the Post Office. He was very well-liked by his peers and customers. I was proud to be his coworker for six years at the downtown station.
We learned a lot about life from my father. I for one would not be the person that I am today without the man that my father was. Not only what he taught us but what he did for us. Whether it would be helping me dig trenches for sprinklers, helping with the cooler on my roof, all the while being stung by bees the whole time, he would be there without complaint, happy to help. My father loved spending free time working on his bike and cruising on day trips with my mom on the back seat with him. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. I can tell firsthand the love Clovis received. My children each had a period of obsession with their Papa. My wife marveled at what a wonderful man my father was and named our firstborn Spencer Clovis Webster after his papa. He liked to ride his mini Harley like his Papa and Brady even dressed as Papa for Halloween one year. From the moment Cooper could speak, he would say “kiss Papa”.
I learned how great a marriage could be from my parents. They were married for 36 years and enjoyed every minute of it. He was always there to support her and she with him in all that they did. From the moment he got sick my mother never once left his side. She was told that she was the perfect wife to Clovis and she replied that he made it easy because he was the perfect husband to her.
He was truly my hero and all the father, son, grandfather and brother that I could ever be. There will forever be a spot in my heart knowing that one day we will see each other again. I love you dad, you are the greatest.
