She professed faith in her Lord and Savior at the age of 9. In 1951, the family moved to California.
Those who knew her in her younger years recall that from time-to-time, that Southern drawl would sneak out and those
curious little Southern sayings would flavor her conversations. After the family eventually settled in San Francisco, she
graduated from Mission High School and met the love of her life, Dwayne Schlegel.
Juanita and Dwayne were married on Valentine's Day in 1960 and honeymooned in Hawaii: the first time she had ever
flown in an airplane. The new family settled in San Francisco and a few years later, in January 1962, a son, Douglas was
born to the happy couple. In 1964, the family moved to San Jose where they would live for many years.
Juanita found employment doing secretarial work and in 1969 their daughter Julie arrived.
By 1982 and a few relocations - to Redwood City and back to San Jose - Douglas had married and Dwayne, Juanita and
Julie relocated to Redding. After settling in Redding, Juanita found occasional employment doing clerical work, but for the
most part, she was content to labor in the home as a homemaker and had that desire right up until the end.
Juanita was entirely devoted to her family - a trait she inherited from her mother. Family gatherings were the best of all
possible activities.
She died quietly at home Saturday, January 4 at midday in the company of Dwayne and in the arms of Jesus.
She is survived by Dwayne, her husband of 54 years, her son Douglas and daughter Julie and brother Gene. She is also
survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
