Evelyn Sargent, 94, passed away June 4, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sister Grace Griffiths Pido, husbands Paul Dunn and Orville Sargent, son Paul D. Dunn, and brothers Fred, David, Robert "Art" Griffith, and Earl Griffiths.
Evelyn was born on April 19, 1917 to Edward "Ted" Griffiths and Anna Dell Hatfield Griffiths in the family home at Moonstone Beach, near Trinidad, CA. She attended Blue Lake Elementary School and Arcata High School.
In 1934 Evelyn married Paul Dunn after meeting at a CCC camp dance in Gasquet, CA. For a time before WW II they owned and operated a taxi company in San Francisco, and children, Deanna and Paul "Doug" Dunn were born then.
Evelyn met and married Orville Sargent in 1950 and started a second family of four more children. Orville logged most areas of Northern California until moving to Redding from Happy Camp in 1960 and becoming a member of Operating Engineers Local #3.
Evelyn was a longtime member of North Valley Baptist Church. A choir member, and volunteered several summers as a cook at Vision Valley Youth Camp, now the Whiskeytown NEED Camp. She loved to try new recipes, garden, and oil paint.
In 1994 Evelyn moved to Anderson, CA to share a home with daughter Deanna Kelley.
She is survived by daughters Deanna Dunn Kelley and Susan Sargent Hess (Donald B) of Gold River, CA; sons Eric Sargent (Redding), Edward "Ted" Sargent (Diane) of Cottonwood, Tim Sargent (Marilyn) of Redding, and daughter in law Janice Dunn (North Highlands, CA). Survivors also include fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces/nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Marquis Care-Shasta and Mercy Hospice for making Evelyn's last months as comfortable as possible.
