It is with great sadness that the family of Richard (Dick) Emory Tobias announces his passing on Friday, March 15, 2013, after a brief illness, and just shy of his 88th birthday on March 19, 2013.

A native of California, Dick joined the U.S. Army at a very young age. He proudly served his country for a short time in WWII and then in the Korean Conflict for two years. During his 20 years with the Army, he attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3; and served at several posts in the United States, as well as France and Germany, where his two youngest children were born.

Upon retiring in 1963, he immediately began working for government contracting agencies, including a NASA Program, at Goldstone Tracking Station and Jet Propulsion Laboratories (Cal Tech) in Southern California. He was influential in the Space Program and worked for another 30 years, finally, retiring to California's High Desert. In 2009, Dick and Rita moved to Redding to be near family members.

Dick's strong work ethic was only shadowed by his uncompromised love and devotion to his family; which is a true testament to the great man he was and why he will be remembered each and every day with love and gratitude.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 68 years, Loretta (Rita); sister, Betty Thorpe; four of five children, Rita Ann (Johnnie) Francis, Ronny (deceased), Tischa (Paul) Green, Bart (Cheryl) Tobias, and Teri (Mike) Clark; seven grandchildren, Jerry B. Taylor, Vic Taylor, Jason Green, Brandee Green Cummins, Michael Clark II, Ryan Tobias, and Sean Tobias; eight great-grandchildren, April Stirgille, Brittany Fieldhaus, Candace Taylor, Megan Green, Amanda Cummins, Alex Green, Courtney Cummins, and Colton Taylor; and four great great-grandchildren, Maliki, Noah and Alexis Stirgille, and Abigail Fieldhaus.

With family and friends in attendance, a graveside service with full military honors will be held on March 22nd at Lawncrest Memorial Park in Redding, California.

   Richard,thank you so much letting your life shine in your daughter, Tischa.  You blessed our family by letting us share her with you.  
   You were greatly loved and will be greatly missed!
   May God bless and comfort your family until we meet again.
