Bernard Cushman Platt, age 97, of Redford, Michigan passed away on Friday November 9, 2018. Bernard was born June 22, 1921 in Highland Park, MI to Bernard and Jane Platt. Bernard was one of two children.
Bernard is survived by; daughter Ruthann Platt; son Norman (Connie) Platt; and son Alan Platt; grandson Michael Platt and grandson Daniel Platt. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Platt, his parents, and his brother Myles.
Bernard was a proud United States Navy Veteran who served in World War II on several anti-submarine task groups. However, he was assigned to the U.S.S. Greene earning several medals, ribbons, and stars. He also received a commendation that reads: “For extraordinary heroism in action against enemy submarines in the Atlantic area from 1943-1944, carrying out powerful and sustained offensive action during a period of heavy German undersea concentrations…”.
Following the military, Bernard completed an apprenticeship with Ford Motor Company and had a successful career as a tool and die maker for the automotive industry until he retired.
Bernard was a simple man who enjoyed relaxing in his easy chair. He enjoyed spending time with his family and simply loved being a husband, father, and grandfather. He had a kind heart and a gentle soul. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation for Bernard will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Harry Will Funeral Home, 25450 Plymouth Road, Redford, Michigan 48239. Following the visitation will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 25450 Plymouth Road, Redford, MI 48239.
