Doris was the youngest of 4 children born to the late George and Viola Kohler. She was predeceased by her brothers Ronald, Gerald and Raymond and her husband Gus Demetri. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Demetri, grandson Patrick Demetri, great-grandchildren Gena Demetri, Jordan Hagen, Patrick Jr. Hagen (“PJ”) and Jacob Hagen.
After coming to Detroit, Doris married her loving husband, Gus Peter Demetri, who was born in Detroit, MI on May 22, 1922. They married on Doris’s 18th birthday in 1942. Together they raised their daughter Patricia in Redford, Michigan and took care of her mother, Viola, in their home until her passing. Doris always thought the world of her husband Gus who passed away on November. 5, 1995 at the age of 73 years old.
Pat worked at Burroughs Corporation and Sanders as a line worker and as a housewife. She had years of enjoyment watching Gena grow up and graduate from Thurston High School. Grandma Pat was actively involved in the Yocum’s karate class, encouraging Gena to learn and advance to achieve her black belt. Pat loved listening to Gena play the organ at home and, on occasion, Gena played at Fireside for the church members. She also had a love and fondness for her other great-grandchildren Jordan, PJ and Jacob. She enjoyed introducing them to karate as well as bringing them to church on occasion.
She liked dining out, going to garage sales and craft shows with her long-time friend Bunny. Pat collected salt cellars, loved traveling in and out of the country and watching her favorite TV Soap opera, General Hospital. She was also well known in the community as “Pat” or “Grandma Pat,” who owned the bright red Camaro and loved giving and receiving hugs from everyone.
Along with spending time at karate events, Grandma Pat enjoyed time with Gena and the Yocum family: going to playgrounds, kid soccer games, bowling, the zoo, family events and holiday gatherings.
In her later years, Pat got enjoyment from her adult coloring books and going to church at Fireside Church of God. She became very involved in many church activities, enjoying the company and friendship of church members. She loved helping with the Adult Care Center in the church and hanging out with her friends and other church members attending crafting and other events around town.
Grandma Pat along with her joking side, wit, friendship and hugs will be missed by many.
