Joe Nathan Matthews was born October 19, 1946 to the late Lewis Jr. and Georgia Matthews. He made his transition on December 25, 2021. He was a beloved husband of the late Shirley Matthews. Loving father of Theresa (William) Thackston and Annette Matthews. Cherished grandfather of Kevin Jones, Dashene (Johnvonte) Anderson and Taylor Thackston. Dearest great grandfather of Amiyah Anderson, Ameer Anderson and Rylee Anderson. Dear brother of the late Richard Matthews, Rebecca Strom, the late Carolee Ruffin, Marcella Cooks, Curtis Matthews and the late Loretta Matthews.

Joe loved watching movies, hunting, fishing and taking care of his lawn! He also had a love for cars and fixing them up. Keeping them clean and in shape was his specialty. You could also catch him singing tunes of his favorite artists like Sam Cooke or The Temptations as he prepared dinner and baked family favorites such as homemade sweet potato pies and banana pudding. He would take care of everyone around him and was always there in your time of need. He will be tremendously missed by all who knew and loved him.
