April 8. 1914 – February 2, 2013
Addie was the youngest of six children born to John F. and Mary C. Waters in Walville, WA (near Pe Ell). Her father, John, passed in 1919 when Addie was only five years old leaving Mary to call on the children to help out anyway they could, Addie remembers having a cow and selling milk to the neighbors. I’m sure that’s where her strong work ethic started!
Addie met and married the love of her life Floyd Kindrick. Together they tackled life head on. They owned and operated two restaurants in Redmond, the first being Addie Bons in the downtown area and the last being Addie’s Café which stood where the ARCO Mart is currently on the Y of Fall City Highway and West Lake Sammamish. This was a regular stop for many of Redmondites, everything made from scratch, good old down home cookin, delicious pies and great milkshakes. Addie also employed some of the best gals Redmond had to offer. A jukebox in the corner, fresh coffee, good conversation and great food, it was a daily meeting place. Not only did Addie and Floyd operate the restaurant but they grew a huge garden where many of the vegetables and fruits for the café came from. So much work took its toll on Addie; she suffered a massive stroke in the late 1960’s (the kind most don’t survive). This sadly brought an end to Addie’s Café; she was to never work again.
Life went on for Floyd and Addie, she recovered nicely in time. They filled their lives with gardening, playing cards and three little teacup poodles. But as life does sometimes cancer took her beloved Floyd in 1974. They fought hard to find him a cure that would save him to no avail. It’s been 39 years since Floyd passed and not a day went by that she didn’t long for him. Addie sometimes wondered aloud “Lord why have you left me here so long when so many have passed on?”
Thank you Addie for all the years of love, laughter and great memories. You are missed and will be loved always.
No services at her request. Visitation on Monday, February 11th from 2pm – 5pm at Cedar Lawns Memorial Park in Redmond.
