1970-2025
Marina Del Rey, CA
Thomas Young Jr, 55, of Marina Del Rey CA left us to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 8, 2025 due to long-term complications from a stroke.
Tom was an independent presence of will and perseverance and will be greatly missed. Tom was originally from Baltimore, Maryland and the son of Thomas Frank Young and Rosemary Young. He was a son, a brother, a nephew, a cousin, a friend, and a dog Dad, who was a strong caring presence for those who knew him. After graduating from Lansdowne High School in Baltimore, Tom moved to California at the age of 18 and spent the majority of his life in the Southern California beach areas.
Tom was a devout Christian who in his later years became closer to God and his faith, which helped provide him strength from the challenges he faced in life. He was an incredible sport adventurist prior to his 2012 stroke and the unfortunate disability that it left him with. He enjoyed sailing, surfing, roller blading, skate boarding, bicycling, mountain/rock climbing, hiking, skiing, white water rafting, golfing, and sky diving prior to his disability. If it was an outdoor sporting activity, Tom was anxious to do it. His outreach as a friend and his abundant energy made him a joy for those lucky enough to be around him.
Tom was a presence of a man who loved life, enjoyed being on the water, whether in it or on it while sailing and boating. He grew up in Maryland in and around the Chesapeake Bay area and spent a lot of time on the water in his early years. Although the stroke left Tom impaired with a disability on his left side, he persevered to continue to live on the water on his sailboat in Marina Del Rey these last 12 years. Tom enjoyed living at the Marina among his community of ever helpful boat neighbors. When we think of a word that describes Tom it is independent - he was set on doing things his way and on his own terms if he possibly could.
Tom is survived by his father Thomas Frank Young, his mother Rosemary Young, his sister Colleen Young, her partner Scott Frego, his sister Christine Cuomo, his brother-in-law Gene Cuomo, his dog Cap, and his ex-wife Jackie Choi.
Please remember Tom with a smile, a fond memory, and enjoy every day you can - especially a beautiful sunny day.
A memorial service for Tom is planned to be scheduled at a future date.
