

Amador P. Bustos, Sr. passed away on December 7, 2015; one day short of his 92nd birthday. Mr. Bustos was born in “El Guayabo” a ranch near the town of Aguililla, Michoacán, Mexico. He came to the United States in the mid 1950’s to work the fields of the Salinas Valley in search of a better life for his family. He settled in Redwood City in the early 60’s and joined later by his wife and then six children in January 1964. He never called any other place home.
In the early days, Mr. Bustos worked in the kitchens of the Pioneer Hotel in Woodside and Stanford Hospital. He was a sander at Miracle Auto Painting, janitor at Lenkurt Electronics and retired as a custodian from the Redwood City School District.
In the late 60’s, as President of the “Asociación Civil Hidalgo,” Mr. Bustos became an outstanding community leader in support of bilingual education, fair housing and immigration reform. For his outstanding community service, the San Mateo County Council of Presidents honored him as Personality of the Year in December 19, 1975. He was also bestowed with an Honorary Associate of Arts Degree by Cañada College in June 14, 1985. He is survived by his wife Amparo Sandoval Bustos and his seven children: Amador Jr., Joel, Salomon, Martha, Humberto, Victor and John Bustos, plus 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Vigil services will be held Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Redwood Chapel, 847 Woodside Road, Redwood City, CA 94061. Visitation will commence at 5:30pm followed by the Rosary at 7:00pm.
A Mass will be held on Monday, December 14, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 300 Fulton Street, Redwood City, CA 94062. Burial will be held at 12:45pm at Gates of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Dr., Los Altos, CA 94024.
Celebration of Life Reception will be held from 2:30pm to 5:00pm, Redwood City Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Ave Redwood City, CA 94061.
