Time is a funny thing. When people pass we look to meaning and their legacy. It is not in the work they accomplished or a resume of activities. It is the memory in our hearts of who they were: character, personality, ethics, morality, is all inclusive. Even though I saw Dottie just a few times in the past decade I will always remember her infectious smile and laughter, she was definitely a “people person.” In 1988 I met her through one of the most compassionate and beautiful persons I have ever known; her granddaughter Margo. Dorothy and Gail opened their home to Margo and her children and later sold the same house to her, which in my mind is witness to the love Dottie gave unconditionally to her family. She was a mainstay; a strong and loving woman that I know will live on in the family she so dearly loved.
