In the song of life, Edward Curtis Sims was surely the guy the “BIG Heart”. A very observant man who would rather spend his time talking and laughing with friends and family, Edward preferred to live in a world of harmony where everything around him was about fun, love and giving. A free spirit, Edward believed that actions definitely spoke for themselves. He seemed to know how to share and love unconditionally. Edward perceived that all of life’s possibilities were open to him, yet he lived with a definite sense of purpose. He was a man who was always ready to share his thoughts and opinions with those around him.
Edward was born on November 27, 1962 in San Francisco, California. His parents were Curtis and Spencenia Sims. Edward was raised in East Palo Alto, California. As a young child, Edward was optimistic in his outlook. He sought out the possibilities in a given situation and looked for ways to apply his creative energies. Edward rarely calling attention to himself, but when he did speak out, his message was clearly understood by those around him.
Early on in his family relationships, Edward showed that he was a loving and flexible person, and he got along fairly well with everyone. He was raised with three siblings. He had an older sister, Lenor Sims, and a younger sister and brother, Paris and Aaron. He was a calm and playful child who was adaptable to any situation.
As he was growing up, Edward developed into a person who enjoyed physically doing things, and he took pleasure in using his mind to create masterpiece classic cars. In his spare time he liked fixing cars. However, to Edward, the most fun he had was simply playing, and spending time with friends.
Growing up, Edward took part in baseball. Early on in his school years, Edward showed an interest in learning, especially when it came to subjects in the arts. At times, school learning did not provide Edward with sufficient challenges, but being an avid reader, he enjoyed books on cars and trains. The teacher he enjoyed learning from the most was Ms. Jackson Tate.
Those who didn’t know Edward well might not view him as being an outgoing person, those who called him their friend knew differently. Edward was shy and sensitive, a person who never forced his opinions and values on others. Close friends knew that his kindness was unmatched, and once you became a friend of Edward’s, you understood how true a friend he could be. While growing up, some of his best friends were JoJo Fulton, Hosea and Greg Loud, Carl Purvis, Andre Wilkes, John Ford and his ride of die dude Vincent “BOB” Julian.
Edward enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in riding around in the neighborhood and going to see fireworks as well as the Blue Angles air show. Edward was content to enjoy his hobbies alone but was also willing to share his interests with others. He was relaxed in his approach to his leisure time because he wanted to savor the present moment.
Because he loved the world around him, Edward enjoyed traveling and going away on vacations. It was an opportunity for him to kick back and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Edward put his personal trademark on any leisure vacation in which he took part. Favorite vacations included going on cruising the Mexican Riviera.
Edward passed away on July 17, 2016 at Stanford Hospital in Stanford California. He is survived by his parents Curtis and Spencenia Sims, his sisters Lenor and Paris his brother Aaron, sister in law MaryAnn Aflak-Sims, and his four nieces, Ciara Hill, Ella Sims, Ava Sims, and Kayla Sims. Services were held at Faith Baptist Church in East Palo Alto, California.
Edward was a good man, a kind man, and a practical man who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being warm and deeply caring. He leaves behind him a treasury of life-long friendships and wonderful memories. Edward always had much to give and was able to make those connections in his life where his gifts were appreciated.
