Barry Warren Resler

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barry W. Resler on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the age of 75.

Barry is survived by his wife Jane (née Florek); his children Aaron (Andrea) Resler and Celeste (Mike) Beare; his grandchildren Julian and Eve Resler, Gabriel and Max Beare; his older brother Stan (Elaine) and younger sister Angela; extended family Bill and Marie Harris, and Pat and Adele Florek; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Emanuel Resler, and by his siblings Janet, Martin, Gordon and Ken.

Barry was born in Lampman, Saskatchewan, and raised in Regina. He spent the summers of his youth on his uncles’ farms, where he and his cousins found no shortage of mischief and hijinks — and where he first developed the pull toward open country and time outdoors that stayed with him.

In 1975, he married Jane, beginning a marriage of 51 years. He showered her with affection — “I love you, Bip-Bips,” a kiss in passing, and every opportunity he could find to tell her how well she took care of him. He took joy in attending Mass with Jane and in saying the rosary together. Last summer they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the lake, surrounded by family and friends.

He gave 43 years to Safeway, working in many roles before retiring in 2010, and made lasting friendships along the way. He was proud of the work and proud of the company, and the length of his service said something about him — he was loyal, and he worked extremely hard. His children are grateful for what that work provided: a home, food on the table, and educations.

For decades he hunted whitetail deer with Pat at Kenosee. The payoff was sausage, jerky, and backstraps, but the real draw was the company — two friends calling themselves the “great white hunters,” out there year after year.

He and Jane travelled to Europe and Hawaii, often in the company of Bill and Marie, or with Aaron, Celeste, and their families. Barry took as much pleasure in the planning as in the trip itself: the routes, the reservations, the details worked out well in advance. He was a thoughtful planner with a careful eye for detail, and it showed in everything he took on.

He was known for his humour, his joy in playfully teasing the ones he loved, and his love of reliving his fondest memories by telling stories. Anyone who spent time with Barry heard the same stories more than once, and was glad of it. Nobody got more of him than his grandchildren — Julian, Eve, Gabriel and Max — to whom he was simply Papa. He loved them without reservation, teased them relentlessly, and delighted in having them around.

Barry built the family cabin with the help of his father, a carpenter, and it became the centre of family life for decades. What we will carry with us are the years at the lake: the barbecues, the long dinners, the card games, the fires burning down late, and Barry somewhere in the middle of it with “Strawberry Wine” or “Toes” playing. This past summer — spent with Jane, his children, and his grandchildren — will be etched in our memories forever.

A FUNERAL MASS will be celebrated at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 1021 McCarthy Boulevard North, Regina, SK, on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Family Parish Building Fund in memory of Barry Resler.
