Brian was born on January 21, 1951 in the village of Shirley, Solihull, Warwickshire England to Fred and Lily (Jones) Dunn. In 1956 Fred and Lily, along with Brian, his older sister Maureen and younger sister Sylvia, emigrated to Ontario, Canada. It was here that his youngest sister Angela was born in 1962. They lived in Ontario until 1969, when the family, except for Maureen, picked up roots and moved to Victoria, B.C.
Brian loved to work on vehicles and spent many happy years building cars for himself and for others. His entire career was spent in the automotive industry. He worked for Toyota Canada for many of those years, which he loved and was very proud of his accomplishments. He travelled to Japan on many occasions and often spoke of those trips. He was a very capable carpenter and did some renovations for his parents in their home in Victoria. Brian always had lots of interesting and knowledgeable topics to share with family and friends. He loved to engage in conversation, always reading newspapers and gleaning new information to share.
Brian took great pride in everything he did, no matter how great or small the task. He was efficient, reliable and very personable and was respected by all who knew him. While living in Calgary, he proudly volunteered for Stars Air Ambulance as a dispatcher.
On October 9, 2005, Brian married Angela, the love of his life and his soulmate of nearly nineteen years. Their loving relationship brought much joy and happiness to both. Brian loved to travel and they were able to enjoy many wonderful trips together. He loved music, especially the music of Frank Sinatra. He was also a huge history buff. Two of the most memorable vacations they enjoyed together were to Nashville Tennessee, including Graceland, and to Washington, D.C. He loved to share with family everything he saw and experienced on those trips.
Brian courageously battled through several serious health issues, but the most difficult was when he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2019. The disease slowly reduced his mobility and in the last couple of years it was very limited. In October of 2023, Brian and Angela moved from Swift Current to a lovely place in Regina where they were able to enjoy each and every precious moment together. Brian bravely faced each day with dignity and grace and never complained. He happily remained at home with Angela until he drew his last breath.
He was an amazing man. A man of integrity. One of a kind. And he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. And in the words so eloquently sung by Frank Sinatra, I know Brian would proclaim “I Did it My Way”
Brian was a loving and caring husband to his wife Angela; a loving dad to his four children, Bryan, Rob (Debbie), Kim Ann, and Philip (Rebecca) and his two stepchildren, Vanessa (Paul) and Justin (Sariah); a loving grandpa to his grandchildren and step grandchildren; a loving brother to his three sisters, Maureen (Bob), Sylvia (Robin-deceased March 2024) and Angela (Rod); and a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Lily Dunn.
