Doris Jean Hunter August 28, 1923 – April 15, 2021

Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully and gently on April 15, 2021. Her children Rick (Julia), Elissa and Bradley (Lorraine); her grandchildren Barb (Glen), Preston (Caley), Danny (Lynny), Kristine (Paul), Kathryn (Kevin), Wing Go (Rachel) and Jocelyn (Jordan); and her 14 great-grandchildren will cherish her memory and hold her forever in their hearts. We may not be able to hold her hand, see her smile, hear her laughter or feel her arms around us in a loving hug, but we are all better people for having had the opportunity to do so. Jean was pre-deceased by her siblings Lou and May; and her beloved grandchild, Alex.

Mom was born in Grand Valley, Ontario but most of her life was lived in Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan. Until her retirement at age 63, and when not staying home to raise her children, she was an administrative assistant, including 2 years as a medical secretary for her daughter, Elissa. Mom loved sports, especially curling and golf and cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders. She loved card games, Cribbage in particular, at which she was fiercely competitive, Bridge and Five Crowns. She would tease whomever she was beating at the time and say, ‘you better pull up your socks.”

Jean’s family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation for the care and appreciation for the care given to her by the staff at Qu’Appelle House, where she resided since 2012 and also to the staff at William Booth Grace Hospice, where she spent her final few weeks. We could not visit with mom as much as we wished because of the pandemic, but we are comforted in knowing that she was always taken care of with kindness and respect. We are particularly grateful to Jillyan at Qu’Appelle House for coordinating with our weekly zoom chats and outdoor visits with mom.

In 1997 her granddaughter, Kathryn interviewed her grandma for a school project. One of her questions to ask was for her to recall some of her happiest memories. Mom’s response was ‘well, my happiest memories are of my 3 children graduating from university, one from law, one from education and one from medical school.” Mom was very proud of her children and their successes and we are very thankful for all that she did for us.

At Jean’s request, a private celebration of her life will be held by her family. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit
