Edward Matus

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Matus on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the age of 91. Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley in 2018 after 61 years of marriage, his parents Joseph and Mary Matus and his sister Irene Depatie and brother-in-law Billy Yancey. Ed is survived by his son Shawn , his sister Josephine Yancey, niece Christine (Dean) Luca and nephews Mike (Holly) Depatie and Jim Depatie and sister-in-law Terrylynn (Neil) Matkowski.

Ed was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and after completing school he got a job at Parker and Quine working as an accountant. It was there that he met Shirley Gwillim the love of his life and they were married in September 1956. He later got a job at the Yorkton Co-op and then moved to Regina in 1966 and got a job with Canada Revenue Agency where he worked for 27 years until his retirement in 1993.

In 1967 Ed and Shirley welcomed into the world their son Shawn. While Shawn was growing up Ed and Shirley spent many relaxing summers with him at the cottage at Good Spirit Lake which Ed had built with the help from his friends in Yorkton. The cottage was Ed's favourite gathering place in the summer and he always welcomed family, relatives and friends.

Ed will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity and strength. He will be missed but his memory will forever be treasured in our hearts.
