Ed was the consummate librarian--thoroughly knowledgeable about the information sources in his subject areas, conscientious in being sure that students and faculty members got the information they needed, and always interested and curious. When I came to work at the University of Regina Library in 2005, Ed had already prepared a thorough written guide to help me through the learning process, and again was especially helpful by providing written materials and CDs when I was going to take over his subject areas upon his retirement. He was a good friend, always willing to help and always sincere and genuine. I miss him.

I worked with Ed at the university for many years, where he provided tremendous help to the engineering students.  In addition to providing the students with excellent information for their design projects, he loved to give presentations on the Gimli Glider and his Triumph Spitfire racing days.   Ed was a very positive, enthusiastic, and encouraging individual.  My condolences to family and friends.

I worked with Ed for many years at the University Library where he shared many stories of his race car driving days and the time Air Canada had to make an emergency landing at the Gimli race track.  He was a dedicated librarian who really  liked serving the Engineering faculty.  He was especially proud of researching the background of a recently hired Engineering professor who  he exposed as having taken the identity of another professional engineer in order to get a job at the U of R.  Needless to say Ed's background check led to the person's dismissal.

Despite the geographical distance between us, Uncle Ed held a Special place in my Heart. He was always the fun and funny one with us Great-Nieces and Nephews; regaling us in tales of his racing days, his garden, life on the prairies and antics at the University. I always admired his quirky ways and zest for Life and could hear his voice when reading through his emails and messages- he was True to Himself and showed me how to be Authentic and Proud! He was Loving and caring towards his extended family, and always made the time to keep in touch and to make sure we knew he cared and loved us. I will miss his messages and the special times we got to visit in person. He was and will always be loved. Our deepest condolences to Murray, Jen and those that knew him best- may memories of the happy times with Uncle Ed will bring some comfort during this difficult time.

I will always remember Uncle Ed for his wonderful sense of adventure and his great sense of humour. When he visited us in Colorado he wowed my five year old brain with his race car stories and his love of ketchup. I had never met someone so enamoured  as  to eat ketchup on ice cream. I still laugh about his super saving stories and his 99 cent t-shirt's to accompany his scrubs. Uncle Ed loved life and was loved by us all. My Dad was especially proud of his brilliant race car driving head librarian little brother. I will miss his infinite smile. Love  cousin Monica

A favourite photo of mine when Uncle Ed visited our cottage in the Laurentians and the two brothers got to work felling a 60 ft tree that was in danger of falling on the house. SO much mathematical calculation!! In the end, no homes or people were injured and there was a resounding cheer as it crashed to the ground!
