Edwin Perry passed away suddenly on July 5th, 2025, 9 months after receiving a cancer diagnosis. He was 79.
Born to Colin (1995) and Violet Perry (1953, nee Walton) on November 14, 1945 in Tillsonburg, Ontario. Raised from age 7 by Murray (1974) and Vera Johnson (1966), he later named his son after his beloved “Uncle Murray”. Ed was predeceased by sister Marsha (1974), brother Fred (2023), and several beloved dogs.
He will be mourned by many: Murray & Jennifer Hand-Perry; his nephew David (Anita), nieces Monica (Kevin), Angela, and his grand-nieces and nephews; his chosen family of close friends and cherished neighbours in Saint Joseph’s who helped or offered to help with appointments, groceries, and other essentials of life; and many faculty, staff, and alumni of the University of Regina, where in 2011 he ended a 43 year career as University Librarian.
As “the world’s fastest Librarian”, Ed spent many years collecting racing trophies with his Datsun 510 and Triumph Spitfire, Piglet. In later years, Ed often drove his lawn tractor to visit neighbours and share the bounty of his huge home garden, and gave away buckets of honey from the local apiary. By giving, he showed his love.
A memorial service will be held at the Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 Victoria Ave East, on Saturday July 12th at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Johnson and Perry Award in Coop Engineering at the University of Regina. To arrange your gift, please contact Maria Garcia Vargas at [email protected] or by phone 306-585-5046.
Finally, sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and other staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre and elsewhere, who cared for Ed during his illness, and the Medical Surveillance Unit of the Pasqua Hospital, who cared for him in his final days.
