

Elsie Tafelmeyer (nee: Arndt) passed away peacefully on February 25, 2023 at the age of 97. Elsie immigrated with her parents and brother Karl from Russia in 1926, fleeing the Russian Revolution and W.W.I. The family settled in Wabash district of southeast Saskatchewan where she attended the Wabash School until grade 8. Elsie worked various jobs in Winnipeg, MB and Carlyle, SK most notably as a telephone operator, before settling north of Carlyle with her husband Paul Tafelmeyer in 1958. Elsie is remembered for her many significant contributions to her family, church, and community. Elsie was the organist for the St. James Lutheran Church in Carlyle and Trinity Lutheran Church in Wordsworth for over 40 years. As the coordinator of the Carlyle Farmer’s Market her kuffles and pies were the pastry of choice for many. Elsie is predeceased by her parents Gottfried and Hulda Arndt, 2 infant siblings, husband Paul Tafelmeyer, sisters Lillian Krause and Lydia Jesse and brothers Karl Arndt and Ewaldt Arndt. Her children Douglas (Cindy), Marlys (David), David (Don), her grandchildren Amanda and Courtney, her sister Manetta Rothwell, her brother August Arndt and her many nephews, nieces and relatives will remember her fondly and celebrate her legacy.
