February 28, 1946 – November 29, 2016
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of husband, father, Papa, uncle, brother, and friend on November 29, 2016.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jewel; daughter Shauna (Kelvin) Hawreluik; his three grandchildren Kierra, Tanner, and Tatum; sisters Joan Varoney, Marilyn (Ed) Shindle, Irene (Bruce) Guest; sister-in-law Linda Kancher; brother-in-law Klaus Geyer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by [parents]; sisters Vicky (John) Braumberger and Carol Geyer; brother Mike Kancher; and brother-in-law Ray Varoney. Gerald was born in the Dysart area and attended school in Dysart as well. He enjoyed playing hockey and ball, and this passion for these two sports continued after moving to Regina. During this time, he met the love of his life, Jewel, whom he married on July 6, 1968. On May 20, 1969 they were blessed with their daughter Shauna. For most of his career he worked for the Regina Post Office until his retirement, then to fill his spare time he worked with Prairie Valley School Division as a bus driver. He volunteered numerous hours at St. Basil’s Hall for many functions until he became ill. He was blessed with three grandchildren and cherished them with all his heart. He enjoyed watching and cheering them on their horses along with his son-in-law’s passion for chuck wagon racing; Gerald made sure he had the best spot to see it all. Throughout Gerald’s life he always made sure no one was left out and made sure his family had what they needed. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Prayers will be held at Lee Funeral Home, 3101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Litugy will take place at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1747 Toronto Street, Regina on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held in Riverside Memorial Park. We would like to thank Code Burgundy and the palliative care ward at the Pasqua Hospital, Dr. Zarkavic, Dr. Kladikahar, and all calls, messages, and visits throughout his journey. Donations may be made to St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.
