It is with great sadness that the family of Herbert James Marshall Harvey announce his passing on October 13, 2026, at his home in Regina, Saskatchewan, at the age of 84.
Herb was born on March 18, 1942, on the family farm west of Silton, Saskatchewan, to Herbert Atkinson Harvey and Margaret O'Neil Harvey. Raised with strong prairie values of hard work, humility, and helping others, Herb carried those qualities throughout his life.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Joe Harvey; and his brother-in-law Harold Wollbaum.
A blind date arranged by his favourite sister, Barb, changed the course of his life when he met Patricia Anne Armstrong at the Exhibition in Regina. The two were married in April 1966 and shared more than 60 years of love, laughter, and memories.
Herb is survived by his beloved wife Patricia; his three sons Rob (Christie), Doug (Amie), and Shawn (Tanya); and his six grandchildren Jaylyn (Zach), Kennedy (Devon), Bailey, Dylan, Adam, and Nolan. He is also survived by his sister Barb Wollbaum; his in-laws Patti, Betty (John), Val, Maxine, and Gus (Laurie); and numerous nieces and nephews.
After high school, Herb left the family farm and moved to Regina, where he began his career with SaskPower. He later continued his career with SaskEnergy, retiring in 1998 after many years of dedicated service.
Family was always at the centre of Herb's life. When his boys were young, he coached baseball and hockey. When not coaching, he spent countless hours as a fan of his boy’s and the grandchildren’s many sports.
An avid sports fan, Herb was a Saskatchewan Roughriders season ticket holder for over 25 years and never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers. He excelled at adult hockey well into his sixties and enjoyed many rounds of golf with family and friends, especially with Tony, Ken, and Gord. Despite a lifelong pursuit of the perfect shot, his greatest golfing regret was never achieving a hole-in-one, even as several family members proudly claimed to have done so.
Herb's love of animals began at an early age on the family farm and remained with him throughout his life. He had a special connection with dogs and seemed to understand them instinctively. He was a true "dog whisperer," as even the most stubborn or timid dogs seemed to trust him and gravitate toward his calm, patient nature.
Known for his generosity and willingness to lend a hand, Herb spent countless hours helping family members with renovation projects and was always there when friends and neighbours needed assistance. Whether fixing, building, or simply offering practical advice, he gave his time freely and without hesitation.
Herb will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, loyal friend, and a man of few words, mostly because, apparently, he could never get a word in edgewise. He found joy in time spent with family, good company, golf buddies, beloved pets, and a quality Scotch.
At Herb's request, there will be no service. Family and friends are encouraged to remember him in their own way, to share a story, enjoy the outdoors, cheer on their favourite team, spend time with a beloved pet, or raise a glass of good Scotch in his honour.

MAY THE ROAD RISE UP TO MEET YOU, MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK. MAY THE SUN SHINE WARM UPON YOUR FACE, THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR FIELDS, AND UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN, MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND. – Irish Blessing
