Jacob “Jake” Buhler - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jake Buhler, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Jake passed away peacefully in Wascana Grace Hospice and we take comfort in knowing he has been reunited with the love of his life, Cecilia, his late wife of 52 years.
Jake was predeceased by his wife Cecilia in 2008 and missed her dearly for the last 17 years. He was also predeceased by his parents, Aganetha and John Buhler; siblings, John, Gertrude Wolfe, Abe, Kay Thiessen, Agnes Hamm, George, Herman and Isaac; as well as cherished in-laws, Ignace and Elizabeth Mayer, Magdalena Mayer, Frank (Blanche) Mayer, Mary (Robert) Martin, Philip Mayer, Ron Mayer and daughter-in-law Cindy Buhler.
Left to cherish Jake’s memory and a life well lived, are his four children, Larry (Mary-Anne Wihak), Yvonne (Ray Hordichuk), Norm (Tracy), and Vern; his six grandchildren, Jana Murdock, Jarod Hordichuk, Jill (Nick) Mazurak, Ty (Makayla Keith), Rebecca (Kendrick) Dusyk, and Stephanie Buhler; and the absolute joy of his life, three great-grandchildren, Lila Murdock, Witt and Autumn Mazurak. Jake is also survived by two sisters, Anne Klassen and Mary Froese; sisters-in-law Anne Buhler, Kathy Buhler, Barbara Buhler, and Rhoda Mayer.
Jake was born in May 1933, the sixth of eleven children, in Edenburg, Saskatchewan. His family moved to southern Manitoba when he was eleven. Jake worked on the family farm until the age of 18, when he decided to head west to the lumber camps near Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Within a few years he found his way back to Saskatchewan and worked as a labourer on construction crews in Moose Jaw and then Regina where he became a Journeyman Carpenter. Jake met the love of his life, Cecilia Mayer, in Regina and they married in October, 1956. They were married for almost 52 years, until Cecilia passed away in June 2008.
Jake retired from his position as Superintendent of Letter Carriers with Canada Post in 1989. He returned to his passion of carpentry, and established his own company, Jake’s Handyman Service, until he was age 75.
Our family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Clair Michel who was of great comfort and assistance during the last year of Jake’s life, as well as to Cherry Sachdeva, Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Baumann and the dedicated, kind nurses in the Palliative Care Unit, Pasqua Hospital and Wascana Grace Hospice.
Flowers are most graciously declined. Those so wishing may make a donation in Jake’s name to the Regina Salvation Army or the Regina Humane Society.
