John Wright of Regina Beach, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully at the age of 74 at the General Hospital in Regina on June 12, 2026, after sustaining injuries due to a fall in his home. John was born in Regina on July 12, 1951, and grew up on a farm in the Marieton district near Silton, Saskatchewan. He graduated from William Derby High School in Strasbourg and earned a full academic scholarship to the University of Saskatchewan, where he completed a degree in mechanical engineering.
He began his 40-year career in computers as a punch card machine operator at the Systems Centre Branch of the Saskatchewan Department of Government Services in 1973. He then worked at Cominco, Saskatchewan Utility Computer Corporation (SaskComp), Westbridge, Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, SaskGeomatics, Information Services Corporation of Saskatchewan, Credit Union Central of Saskatchewan, and The City of Regina, where he retired from his final position as information architect. He took pride in public service and in particular his role in the computerization of medicare claims, public budget information, and land titles.
Those who knew John will remember him for being honest, fair, ethical, and generous, always careful to consider the impact his actions might have on others. Unfailingly polite, he made a point of asking and remembering names. In the workplace he treated staff with respect and encouragement and was always eager to recognize talent, provide mentorship, and assist others in achieving their goals. As well as being kind and gentle, John had a beautiful mind–intelligent, analytical, and mechanical. There was nothing he couldn't fix, and when raising four teenage boys, he became the late night mechanic on call. John appreciated time with his family and was very proud of all of them. He loved to laugh and, in his down time, he took pleasure in the humour of Monty Python and John Cleese. Once retired John and Diane spent many winter months enjoying the mild climate of Osoyoos, B.C.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Diane; his sons, Michael (Megan) and Andrew (Rebecca); his stepsons, Kyle (Amber) and Brock Eadie; Michael's ex-partner, Tania Aguilera; his grandsons, John and Bentley; his sister Shirley (Lou) Brunelle; and his ex-wife, Cheryl Luther. He was predeceased by his parents, Louie and Raynor Wright, his sister Carol (Randy) Crosson, his grandmother Louisa English, and his grandfather John Wright.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Regina General Hospital for their competence and compassionate care during John’s stay there.
A celebration of life will be held in Regina at the Victoria Avenue Funeral Home (2080 Victoria Avenue East) at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, with lunch to follow.
