It is with great sadness that the family of Lillian Vargo announce her passing at the age of 90. She passed away peacefully at College Park II on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Bert in 1995; her parents; two brothers; and a sister. She is survived by her loving children Carolyn (Dave) Gillies, Brent (Edna), and Grant (Lois); grandchildren Aaron (Lilya) Vargo, Alaina (Ryley) Widdup, and Robert (Tanya) Gillies; and great-grandchildren Gabriel, Jenny, Brooke, Dekklyan, and Vayda.
Lillian was born in the family farm house west of Wawota. Mom went to Normal School in Moose Jaw to become a teacher. She taught in a one room school near Kennedy. It was there she met Dad at the VJ day dance and they were married in 1949. They moved with their first two children to Regina in 1956. While raising her family, she attended university night classes to obtain her Bachelor of Education. She retired after 35 years of teaching, the majority of which were at Grant Road School. After her retirement, she and Dad found themselves empty nesters and began to travel. She got the travelling bug and enjoyed many trips around the world with close friends and family. Lillian’s last trip out of Canada was to Cuba with her dear friends. When she found spare time, she enjoyed sewing and bowling. She also kept busy with needlework which she has given to family members. Mom lived life to the fullest and was always helping others. The family sends a special thank you to the staff of the Memory Care Floor at College Park II.
