It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Melvyn Horsefall on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, with his son, Nick by his side. Melvin was born February 18, 1962, where he grew up in Regina, attending Wetmore Elementary School and Balfour Collegiate, making lifelong friends. Following with studying Justice at the University of Regina.
Mel was immensely proud of his career. One of his first jobs was a Security Floor Walker at the Bay, followed by Mailroom Clerk at the Ministry of Justice. In 1986, Mel became a Corrections Worker at the Provincial Correctional Centre in Regina. During that time, he also held a part time role of Acting Assistant Deputy Director. He retired from Corrections in 2018.
He loved to travel and he took numerous trips throughout North America with family and friends, even a few summers checking out wineries and camping in the Okanagan. But his favourite destination was Las Vegas where he went at least two dozen times! He cherished trips to music concerts such as CCR and ZZ Top in Minnesota, and Kid Rock in Washington, and he enjoyed singing karaoke.
Mel took great pride in his yard, hosting summer backyard fires for family and friends, sitting around the fire, talking, laughing and singing. In recent years, he discovered a love for flowers and tended to them with care – likely from his years helping Ma garden.
Mel enjoyed giving back to the community and worked with Camp Little Bear to provide transportation to and from Regina for underprivileged kids so they could experience camping and sports. Much of the cost was paid out of his own pocket. Mel volunteered as an urban coach for a cycling team. We recently learned he had his Class 1A license as well!
As per his wishes, no funeral will be held. Those who feel inclined are invited to offer prayers to the Creator or God, sending blessings for a peaceful journey of his spirit.
Mel went by many nicknames including Froggy, Frog, and Melman. He leaves behind family and friends who will miss him singing by the fire, the way he could deadpan jokes, and his wonderful cheeky smirk. Stay deadly!
