Born in Davidson and raised in Craik, Bill grew up helping his dad on the family farm. He attended Craik school and as a teenager began working with the Department of Highways. He married Marcia McLane on March 6, 1965 and the couple added five children to their family. In 1974, Bill took on a supervisor position with Highways and the family moved to Milestone. He accepted an early retirement in 1994.
Bill was always the first to lend a hand when needed whether it was to his kids, family or neighbours. He could fix almost anything and loved taking other people’s junk and turning it into treasure. He never quit until a job was done and he never let his helpers quit either! Bill was meticulous about his yard. There was never a leaf or snowflake out of place. He loved going on hunting trips with his sons and brothers. Many a story has been told about Bill’s adventures with wolves, moose, water, and boulders! Bill enjoyed sports. He helped to coach the Lang Angels ball team that won numerous championships and spent many hours watching Milestone Flyers hockey when his boys played. He and Marcia enjoyed many evening drives in the country checking crops and cattle and stopping to fish at the creek. The grandchildren brought much joy to Bill’s life and he always had a stash of candy or cookies near his chair for when they came to visit.
