Steven Martin Deck, Dad went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Sunday afternoon, August 27, 2023 at the age of 103 years. He passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his children at his side.
Steven was born on November 20, 1919 to Daniel and Anna-Marie Deck and raised on a farm near Sedley, SK. He was the sixth of nine children.
He took his schooling in Sedley, and after completing his education, he moved to Shilo, MB. Steven was unable to serve in the war due to a medical condition but did make his contribution to the war effort by building airplane hangars.
Dad met the love of his life, and in 1945 he married Theresa Mildenberger. Together they farmed near Sedley for thirty-seven years and raised their ten children. They sold the farm in 1982 and started the next phase of their life in a newly built home in Sedley. Over the next twenty years they enjoyed retirement by traveling, gardening, carpentry, fishing, playing cards, visits from grandchildren and visiting with family and friends. Mom & Dad were always ready to jump in the camper and go at a moment’s notice.
Everyone was guaranteed a fine meal and a lively card game when visiting. In the fall of 2004, Mom and Dad made their move to Regina where they continued their retirement by making more new friends, playing cards and enjoying their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Steven was predeceased by his wife of sixty-one years, Theresa, his parents, all his siblings and their spouses, all of Theresa’s siblings and spouses except for Theresa’s youngest sister. He was also predeceased by daughters-in-law Lisa Deck, Leone Deck, son-in-law, Harvey Klein, grand-daughters, Rhonda (Klein) Button, and Angela (Deck) Simpson.
Steven is survived by his children Bernard (Georgette), Jim (Gayle), Gloria Klein, Angela Wright (Percy), Daniel (Marlene), Anita, Arnie (Rhonda), Frank (Linda), Teresa Schellenberg (Jerry) and Will (Traci); twenty-six grandchildren and fifty-one great grandchildren; sister-in law Rose Tymura, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly remembered and missed by many. Special thanks and appreciation to Monica and all of her staff at Gardiner Point Care Home and Riverbend Crossing.
Prayers will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 Victoria Avenue East, Regina, SK at 7:00 P.M.
