Betty Mae Walker was the youngest of 5 children, born to Alfred and Martha Schmidt in Denver, Colorado. She was born crippled and after multiple surgeries at Children’s Hospital, in Denver, she walks by herself for the first time at the age of 13. She was the only sibling to graduate from high school. Betty married Ralph Walker, on November 30, 1946. They raised four children and she had an ironing business for over 40 years. She was known for her delicious baked goods, which was performed every Wednesday.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Walker, and brothers, George Schmidt and Alfred Schmidt, sisters, Anna McRae and Lillian Traverso. She is survived by her children Martha Jean (James) Denton, Winifred Ann (Dennis) Royce, James Edward (Terri) Walker and Susan Lee (Robert) Knisley, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
