What I loved about my brother was he was fearless. He wasn’t scared to live. ADVENTURER was his first name and it guided him through any hard or challenging times. Some people sulk a lot when the cards they feel aren’t dealt right. My brother was a problem solver. That takes courage. And he pressed on. He accomplished a solo motorcycle ride to the article circle from Seattle on his BMW bike. He went to the ARTIC CIRCLE guys, by himself, on a bike! Just making sure you heard me. No cell service and only the moose to say hello to. Unfortunately, he spun out on a mud groove and he went down. After quickly assessing the damages, he picks himself and the bike back up but now with a broken leg he must travel the 2500 mile distance back home.  There was no human or hospital in sight.  He used his front brake instead of his rear brake to stop the bike which takes a lot of down shifting and finesse to not lose control of the bike.  He made it safely home in record time and casually went into surgery a few days later for his broken leg.  Every time I see a patient as a physical therapist I know part of me becomes that bad ass part of Corey that nicely says you got to get up and go, I don’t care how bad the pain is. The end result in life depends on the courage to overcome all obstacles that are thrown your way. The voyage through fear and the unknown continues but it is how we face our fears that makes us who we are.  I know Corey is looking down on all who knew him and loved him and giving them that extra push of limitless courage and strength. Never ever give up is what he’d say.

We are so shocked to hear the news of Corey's accident and  subsequent passing on as a result.  One memory Dick has was when Corey was out jet skiing on the Snohomish river with his good friends Vic & Jane Belmondo.    He says Corey was riding the jet ski like a pro 'porpoising'  it (diving) it under the water and back out again.  Dick was impressed by his prowess with the machine as he was having a blast 'playing ' on the jet ski.    I remember his great smile and sense of humor.   We are stunned by this tragic news and our hearts and prayers are with his family.   ~  Love,  Dick & Murphy 

I met Corey nearly 10 years ago when we both took the aid climbing course through the Mountaineers.  Aid climbing is hard work and very technical and a lot of guys don't love it, but Corey loved it.  Pretty much all the aid climbing I've ever done was with Corey, in fact I always used his "extra" aid harness because he had 2 or more and I didn't even have one - including several trips together down to Yosemite.   One one such trip, Corey had been up on the wall the previous day (or two) fixing ropes up to the sleeping ledge on Washington Column to pave the way for me so that when I arrived, we could have a head start on our climb.  Corey was pretty smoked (tired) from several days on the wall, but he was up and moving with me as we trudged up there with all of our climbing gear, water, and overnight kits.  I realized  how tired he was when I woke in the middle of the night with him leaning over the edge of our sleeping ledge to puke from exhaustion of the day.  The next morning, he decided he would belay, and I would do all the hard climbing! He was a very generous and friendly guy - always willing to go out of his way to teach or otherwise offer a helping hand.  What a tragic loss this is.

I first met Corey in the mid 80's or so. It was a friendship that stood the test of time. Although I had not seen Corey in quite some time he was always in my thoughts as well as the rest of his family.

The most notable memory I have of Corey was he and his brother Sean teaching me how to fly two string stunt kites. I struggled to master the art. With patients and perseverance they would not give up on me, and over time I mastered kite flying. 

When ever I can make it to the beach and have the time to fly I always thank theses two brothers for not giving up on me.

I also remember Corey's whit and sense of humor. He had great sense of humor and was always quick to say something funny about most anything.

R.I.P. Coery McCarty, You were a dear friend, and will be missed by all who knew you.
