Long term eastside resident Rev. Jack C. Ernst, 95 was called home to Jesus Monday evening around 10:30 PM. After years of anticipation he now joins his beloved wife Dorothy. Grandson of a well-known Washington pioneer family, he will be missed by many family and friends. He had two sons, Jack and Paul, two daughters Susan and Joy, thirteen grandchildren as well as many great grandchildren. He was known to his numerous friends as a Patriot, Artist, Teacher/Coach and Minister.
He had a long and diverse career. He served as a Gunner’s Mate on the Fletcher Class Destroyer Hutchins and Samaritan Hospital ships in WWII— the Pacific War. As a Marine tank commander during the Korean Conflict he trained many recruits. He was a talented commercial artist— working as the art director for Channel 9 TV. He was also a wrestling coach /art teacher at Hazen High school In Renton for many years. He was the main Pastor of a church in Renton as well as a prominent children’s evangelist. He traveled the Northwest as the featured speaker at youth camps and church revivals.
He was known for his commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and for his boundless enthusiasm. The light in the Pacific Northwest will shine a little less bright having lost one of its brightest. The family has scheduled services at Eastridge Church. Please reach out to the church for service date and time.
