On June 15, 2017, The Lord reclaimed the earthly angel he blessed us with, Mildred Bernice Williams. She was born on May 11, 1928 in Muskogee, OK to the union of Charlie Ogans and Belvia Sallis-Ogans. Mildred attended Carver High School in Phoenix, AZ and after graduating relocated to Seattle, WA, in 1946 where she worked for Smith Tower. Shortly thereafter, Mildred’s entrepreneurial spirit inspired her to open her own restaurant, The Veteran’s Café and Pool Hall in the Duwamish area of Seattle. During this time, Mildred met the love her life, George Williams, Jr., and they married on April 10, 1953. Mildred later worked for Swedish Hospital before joining The Boeing Company in 1965 as a machinist and proud member of the union. Mildred and George enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and hunting with their two dogs, Emma and Dixie. George preceded his loving wife in death in 1982.
Mildred loved her family and friends and truly enjoyed meeting new people. Her hobbies included traveling, photography, scrapbooking, crocheting, and making homemade fruit preserves and wine for family and friends. After retiring from The Boeing Company in 1990, Mildred’s passion for travel led her on adventures around the world to countries such as Spain, Morocco, and Jamaica.
Mildred attended Rose Hill Baptist Church in Seattle, WA. She leaves to mourn five sisters, Charlene Milton of Tyler, TX, Rosemary Wade and Loretta Tucker of Tulare, CA, Beverly Ellis-Mayers of Las Vegas, NV and Pamela Ellis-Bruce of Auburn, WA; three brothers, Clarence, Rayford and Lenord Ogans all of Tulare, CA, a very special uncle, Rueben Sallis of Muskogee, OK and host of relatives and friends.
Let’s rejoice in Mildred’s homecoming, as she lived a joyful life with integrity, amiable character, and met all challenges with a bright and determined spirit.
