Mona was married to Deputy Chief William (Bill) Landers of the Seattle Fire Department for almost 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, and both of her sons, Martin William Landers and Jon Marshall Landers. She is survived by her loving family, including daughter-in-law Sandy Landers Terry (Jim); granddaughters, Crystal Zahorski (Aaron) and Nicole Jacobs (Jon); and great grandchildren Luke Burman (16) and Evalyn Burman (13), Boden Jacobs (13) and Charlotte Jacobs (12).
Mona was born in Krakow, Wisconsin in 1925. She left home shortly after graduating from high school and moved to Seattle to live with her uncle. Moving away from home allowed her brother Marshall to stay home and take care of the family dairy farm during WWII. Mona made a new life for herself in Seattle working as a secretary for the Port of Embarkation for 5 years. She met Bill Landers through a mutual friend at the post office and they married in 1949. Mona continued working after marriage as a secretary for Packard Motor Car, RC King, and she finally retired in 1979 after 17 years with the Seattle School District as the beloved secretary for Emerson Grade School.
Mona was active in the Lutheran Church her entire life and most recently was an active member of Lakeridge Lutheran Church beginning in 1976. She loved cooking, gardening, and homemaking. She loved her many friends and could tell the most wonderful humorous stories. Mona and Bill enjoyed attending the Seattle Symphony Pops Concerts and were season ticket holders for many years. After retirement, Mona and Bill traveled to Norway, England, the Holy Land, and to countries in Africa. They also enjoyed cruising to Alaska and the Caribbean as well as vacations in Hawaii.
