Ryan Michael Sluys, 33, of Renton, Washington, died March 6, 2015 as a result of a staph infection that reached his heart. He was born December 31, 1981 in Renton, the son of Pete Sluys and Deborah (Schreiner) Rosicky. He attended Renton and Kent schools and graduated from Kentridge High School in 2000.
Ryan was a gentle man who was most proud of his young son Vander (3), whom he referred to as “peanut.” He lived in the moment and enjoyed putting smiles on people’s faces with his charm and charisma, never passing up an opportunity in his fun-loving way to make others comfortable and enjoy their time with him. Over the years Ryan brought so much joy to our lives. He was so smart, always on the honor roll, just soared through school. Ryan was an artist, able to look at anything and just draw it; so into his very unique style. Most of all his heart was bigger than he was and he was not afraid to show his heart and his emotions. He loved his family more than himself and was always ready to let you know how much he loved you.
Ryan is survived by his spouse Samantha and their son Vander and step-daughter Alexis Kaplan; parents Deborah Rosicky and Pete & Joy Sluys; his sisters Cara Sluys and Kristina Budd, and brothers Brian Stevens and Terryl Goldsbary. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Sylvan and Connie Schreiner of Kent; and his paternal grandparents, Theo and Marry Sluys of Las Vegas, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. He is predeceased by his step-father Ron Rosicky.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to a scholarship fund for Ryan’s son Vander, payable to “Merrill Lynch” and noting in the memo section “Vander Sluys”. Donations can be mailed to Merrill Lynch, 1201 Pacific Avenue, Suite 1800 (Attn: Cheryl Rumbolz), Tacoma, WA 98402 or to Pete Sluys, 4407 24th St. SE, Puyallup, WA 98374.
