I was just made aware of Jim's passing and I wanted to share with Betty and his children what a wonderful man he was.  I have fond memories of him and his funny conversations with Betty, good times with my parents, and his patience with his children.  

My sincere condolences to the Goble family.  Jim will be missed by many people including me.  I first met him in early 1978.  He was the audit engagement partner on a difficult account located in Western Nebraska.  The client was being served out of our Chicago office and transitioning to the Lincoln office where I was assigned as the audit engagement manager.  As he was leaving the client Jim said, “See you in Boca”.  Obviously he knew something that I did not.  I met up with him again when I transferred to the Dallas office in early 1984.  I always liked and respected him.  I last saw him at a Dallas office retired partner luncheon.  He seemed ageless.  He had driven up to Dallas by himself.  Really an amazing person.

I had the pleasure of working with Jim for several years in Dallas before his retirement.  He was the consummate professional who was admired and respected by everyone.  He was as gracious on the golf course as he was in a work situation.  He was a major asset to his firm and his community.  It was my pleasure to know him.

Jim was the very first partner that I interviewed with in Dallas when I was seeking a position with Peat, Marwick, Mitchel & Co. I ended up being employed by the San Antonio office. Jim was a reviewing partner for insurance company audits, and I ended up working on all of the office's insurance clients. Jim was a very important part of my career from getting hired to progressing with the firm and ultimately becoming the managing partner of the San Antonio office. I will always remember Jim as an extremely intelligent accountant who was a kind and helpful gentleman that I was proud to personally know and work with. He was an important part of my life and professional career. It is with great sorrow that I became aware of his passing. May God bless him.
