On Sunday January 6, 2019, Lois Jean Neal, “Jean”, devoted wife and loving mother of four children, passed away at the age of 78. Jean was born in Avilla, Indiana on December 2nd, 1940 to Ed and Minnie (Truelove) Blotkamp.
In July of 1960, Jean met her future husband, Jim Neal, at a cookout at her sisters’ home. The rest is history. Jim and Jean married on March 2nd, 1962. On December 30th, 1962, they had their first of 5 children. Jean was a loving and active mother who was very involved in her children’s lives. Some of these activities included girl scout leader, cub scout den mother, teaching Sunday School at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, and personal chauffer to her children’s musical concerts, sporting events, and various other activities. Later in life, Jean continued to give her time to other charitable activities. This included volunteering at Marine Corps Wives Auxiliary League, Meals on Wheels, and the annual Toys for Tots Children’s Christmas Toy Drive.
Jean was preceded in death by her daughters, Jill and Jenny, and her parents Ed and Minnie Blotkamp. Jean is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim Neal and their sons Jeff, Jimmy and Jerry. She was also the grandmother of 6; Jeni, Sara, Carson, Davis, Jade and Jordan.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Sparkman Funeral Home Chapel of Richardson at 2:00pm on Friday, January 11, 2019.
