Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Rob moved with his family to Seattle, Washington in 1964, and graduated from Evergreen Senior Highschool in 1973. He later served in the United States Airforce where he received his certification as a Jet Engine Mechanic. Rob carried his passion for airplanes, electronics, engines, and machines through his life, as he continued to build and fly radio-controlled airplanes, as well as exact detail replica models of vintage fighter planes, battleships, cars and trucks. In his professional life, Rob worked as an Electrical Maintenance Mechanic in the pool and spa business around the Dallas/Richardson area.
Rob had a deep appreciation for music from all genres and was a very talented musician. Rob played drums but also played guitar; a 6 and 12 string acoustic, and electric guitar. Rob was also a former member of the Dallas Dart Association that participated in (and won) several tournaments around the city.
Rob’s patience and quiet nature were a testament to his huge heart; he loved more deeply than he displayed. It was in the last years of Rob’s life that he was truly tested but found peace through his strong faith in God’s abundant love. Rob never doubted that all would be well, no matter what he faced with life’s challenges.
Preceded in death by his father, Cecil E. Drake and mother, Ollie Francis Ruppee, Rob is survived by his brother Richard Douglas, sister Sharon Kay (Rick), his Uncle Alvin and Aunt Sarah, along with a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rob was proud of his military service and most grateful to the Dallas VA Medical Center. Final burial will take place at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
