

Robert Lloyd Simmons was born July 21, 1924 in rural Addison, Texas and passed away at his home in Richardson on May 2, 2012 at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert E. Lee Simmons and Ione Montgomery Simmons and a younger brother, Billy Mack Simmons.
Lloyd is survived by his loving family: his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Louise Cook Simmons; daughter, Lynne Flahive and son-in-law Terry Flahive; three grandchildren, Brian Lillis and wife Jennifer, Kevin Flahive and wife Shannon, Jenny Flahive Richey and husband Clay; five great-grandchildren, Conor and Seth Lillis, Lorelei Flahive, and Jack and Chandler Richey. He is survived by his younger sister Juanita West and husband Charles.
Lloyd graduated from Richardson High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served on the U.S.S. Davis and was at the invasion of Normandy.
Lloyd worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years and served in many capacities for the Richardson, Garland, and Dallas regional offices.
Lloyd was fun loving and had a great sense of humor. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast and always had great stories to tell. In 1953, he was instrumental in organizing the first little league baseball program in Richardson. He coached and later umpired for little league and the men's church league.
Lloyd was a member of Canyon Creek Country Club and served on the Board of Governors for two years. He was also President of the Dallas Golf Association. He was a member of the Garland Lions Club. He served for two terms on the City of Richardson Planning Committee. Lloyd and Louise have been members of First Baptist Church of Richardson since 1953. Lloyd served as church treasurer and later in life as a greeter. Lloyd was privileged to be chosen to participate in Honor Flight. Honor Flight is an organization that takes WWII veterans to Washington D.C. to see the war memorials.

A visitation with friends and family will be held at Sparkman Funeral Home on Sunday, May 6th from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. Funeral Service for Mr. Simmons will be held at the First Baptist Church of Richardson located at 1001 N. Central Expressway, Richardson. Interment to follow at DFW National Cemetery.
