

Virginia Anne Baysden, 70, peacefully went on to heaven to meet her Lord and Savior on September 7, 2016. She was born to the late Guy and Rebecca Baysden, on September 29, 1945, in Jacksonville, NC. She grew up in Richlands, NC where she was a member of the First Christian Church. Along with her parents, her younger sister, Diana Baysden Hobbs, also predeceased Virginia. She is survived by her son Tracey Baysden, daughter-in-law Caryn, and granddaughters, Kaley, Becca and Riley of Raleigh. She has two surviving sisters, Gloria Baysden Willis (Stanley) of Wilmington, NC, and Janie Baysden Simms Nehrbas (John) of Seminole, Florida. Virginia also has five nephews, Christopher and Daniel Willis, Aaron Hobbs, Robert and Steven Simms, along with four nieces, Michele Simms, Katie Fugate, Holly and Allison Willis.
Virginia often cared for her granddaughters. She thoroughly enjoyed interacting with children of all ages. She taught Mathematics classes for two years in Richlands. She completed her career in the early 2000’s at the Center for Marine Sciences at UNCW in Wilmington, NC. Virginia made friends easily. They enjoyed her quick wit and passion for politics. She has campaigned and worked tirelessly in several elections on the national, state and local level. She was quite knowledgeable in history, the arts and had fervor for writing.
Virginia’s family will receive friends and family from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Richlands on Saturday, September 10, 2016. Services will be held at the First Christian Church in Richlands at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2016 with Reverend Kim Holly officiating. Following the services burial will follow at the Baysden Family Cemetery in Richlands.
In lieu of flowers Virginia has requested donations to cancer research.
