

Alice Elizabeth Brennan Young Age 88, died peacefully in the company of immediate family November, 5, 2011, at 4:00 PM in Petaluma, CA. She was born in Cebu City, Philippines on December 26, 1922, to William J. Brennan and Victoria Caballero Brennan. She was predeceased by her parents, her older siblings Adelaide B. Jones and William J. Brennan, and son Wilton J. Upchurch. She is survived by her husband, Robert Stewart Young, children Patricia Anne Young and James Stewart Young (Cornelia), and her younger siblings, Mary Brennan Saunders and Leonard Brennan. Alice was a survivor of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines during WWII, enduring the struggles for survival while also aiding the covert operations of the American and Filipino guerrillas. After the war, Alice became a legal secretary for Standard Oil Company and in the early fifties immigrated to the United States to continue her career with that company, a career which lasted approximately forty years. Alice spoke three languages, had a wicked sense of humor, and was often the life of the party. She was also a great dancer, a lover of dogs, and above all loyal to her friends and family. She was one of the Greatest Generation and will be missed by many. Services will be held at noon Saturday 12/17/2011 at St. John's Church, 50 Fifth Street, Petaluma.
