Philander and I became close, dear friends over 40 years ago. What a gentleman! He was "adopted" as "Uncle Phil" to my sons, Paul and Cole. What a loving, great and silly guy. I wondered so terribly why I wasn't hearing back from him. I realized I should look him up on the  internet. Sigh. I know our Holy Father granted him the Peace he so deserved and put him in his perpetual light that makes him shine. One more Angel went to the "Kingdom of Heaven". Philander...you will always  live within our hearts. God Bless you through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

I hadn't heard from Philander in awhile so I thought I would give him a call.  His number was no longer in service. I Googled him to see if there was a different number for him. I was shocked when I saw this obituary. Philander and I go back to Charles Schwab in the late 80's . We always found a way to work together. I left Schwab to work for Paine Webber(UBS) and shortly thereafter, Philander started working there too.  A few years later, Philander told me about a small online brokerage firm called Lombard. I interviewed and started working there. We worked together through several name changes. He left a few years later but we always kept in touch. He would call me on my birthday.  We always referred to each other as "Junior".  I last spoke  with Philander after I was laid off. He said I should apply where he worked. I never did. Philander had mentioned that he was losing weight, he was such a slim guy to begin with so that said a lot.  I wish I had called him on his birthday last year but I never got around to doing. I don't know what happened but I hope he's finally at peace. Philander, you were and always will be my brother. Rest in peace my friend, you deserve it.

Similar to the memory that was just posted earlier today below, I was also a floor mate of Philander’s who just found out today about his passing in July.  All day I have had a heavy heart.  I used to always look forward to running into Philander in the hallway.  His incredible warmth, kindness, and genuineness just radiated from him.  Over the years, we would quickly share family photos and updates and I can still hear his voice asking me “How’s your little baby girl doing?”   His absolute joy at spending time with his family and undeniable pride in them was amazing.  Philander was an absolute treasure and I consider myself lucky to have gotten to know him for even a short time.  I wish I had had the chance to tell him that before his passing.  

Philander, I will miss you and your smile and your contagious spirit and our quick conversations.  I hope you are at peace now.  Your friend, Chris 

I met Philander in the bathroom of our office building of all places. He complimented my shoes and we were fast friends ever since. Every time I would see him, he was upbeat, jovial, and always had a great story to tell. He loved his family and friends and it showed with the way he lit up every time he spoke about them. Despite being a lot younger than him, we would always find something to talk about in our brief but nice chats in the bathroom. My coworkers also knew him (albeit not on a first name basis) and always considered him a friend and a pleasure to talk to.

Since the pandemic hit, I was under the impression that he was working from home this whole time....

I had the unfortunate displeasure of learning of his passing in July from a fellow floor-mate. 

Little did I know that our brief conversation back in March would be our last. 

I miss you my friend. I send my deepest condolences on behalf of your friends from the law office next door.

The world is a little less bright without you in it.

I am devestated and very sad to hear of Philander passing. We met in early 80s and kept in touch. I visited him at his home when I was in Ca doing my Yoga teacher training mid 90s. He contacted me when his mom passed.
I hope whatever he passed from was not a long illness.

You were such a warm and caring person. I miss our talks. I miss you asking me how my kids are doing, and us laughing and crying about what's going on in life and in the world. You truly are missed. There was no one else like you Philander.

My dearest Phil,

Over thirty three years ago I began a new position at Charles Schwab & met a fellow new employee. At that time I had no way of knowing that this person with whom I was about to embark on a new path would turn out to be a special & very precious friend, even decades later.  

You, Philander, were that special & very precious friend. You are light and kindness and joy and I am heartbroken that you left far too soon; heartbroken that I'll never again be able to see the sunshine in your smile nor hear the sincere love in your voice with our "love you, love you more" phone call endings. I am heartbroken, but in pain there is healing - memories of our happy times will remain with me always.

May you ever more dance in the heavens, sing with the angels and rest in God's peace. You are loved more than you will ever know. Farewell, my precious friend and fare thee well on your journey toward God’s light.

Dearest Philander, it’s still not real that your gone. I’m in disbelief and hurting.  I’ve told my kids you were the most honest and wonderful human that I knew. Philander was such a sweet and gentle person who will be sorely missed.  RIP my friend, and condolences to his family.

Philander was always my first call every birthday, holiday and in between. I felt a connection when he came to interview at Bear Stearns. He was alway there. Philander was a gentle, kind, honest man and I will miss his calls and seeing him when I go back to SF.i feel like a piece of my heat is gone. RIP my sweet Philander you will be missed❤️😘

Philander and I met while working in San Francisco, we became friends immediately.   We use to go out and take walks at lunch time and just people watch.  He became such an important friend of mine and he is missed dearly.  My heart has been broken in two since getting the  word that he passed. I was blessed enough to have talked to him before he went in to his surgery procedure.  I can say that he reached the heart of many people and they too mourn his loss. 

Philander you were truly my brother, we could share everything and I will never forget you and how you enriched my life by just being you.  Love you... Love you More...

To his family members, I know you lost a very beloved member of your family. He loved each and every one of you to the core of who you are.   May you keep his memory alive and well.  My hugs and condolences to you.
