RICHARD EARL JONES- a friend to many; a son who dearly loved his mother, and one who tried to enjoy life to its fullest-passed away on June 23, 2021, in Richmond, CA. He was born on October 2, 1950 in Marthaville, LA to Clyde and Lillie B. Jones. He was the youngest of eight children born to this union.
Richard accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, uniting with New Light Baptist Church in Marthaville. He attended elementary school in Marthaville and High School in Allen, LA.
After graduating from Allen High School in 1968, Richard relocated to Richmond, CA where he excelled. He became employed by Southern Pacific Railroad as a Switch Operator. In 1970, he met Etta Sanders, the mother of his son, DeMarco, who was born in 1972. In 1973, he relocated to Los Angeles, CA. Shortly thereafter, he met Carol Richardson whom he later married. To their union, one son, Latrell was born.
In 1983, he relocated back to Richmond, CA and became gainfully employed with the John Steward Company as a Grounds-man for several of their properties.
Richard had a friendly and outgoing personality, and a generous spirit. He will be remembered for his laughter, teasing, jokes, and warm smile. He loved landscaping, gardening and enjoying the beauty of nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings: Raymond, Vera, Dorothy, and Helen.
Richard’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his children: DeMarco (Bertera) Jones, Latrell Richardson Jones. Grandchildren: DeMarco, Jr., Devin, Na’Kayah, Calani, Dillon, Jessie, and Jamari. His siblings (including three first cousins who were raised by his parents, after the demise of their parents:) Clyde Jones, Jr., Clotyle Carroll, Gloria Jones Smart, Chester (Marie) Clem, Odessa (Dwight) Clem Steele, and Mary Benefield; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
